New York, USA – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, has arrived in New York to attend a high-level meeting of the United Nations Security Council. The meeting is focused on maintaining international peace and security. The theme of the discussion is “Practicing Multilateralism, Reforming, and Improving Global Governance.”

The meeting is chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Mr. Wang Yi. China holds the presidency of the Security Council for the month of February. The event brings together high-level representatives from different countries to discuss ways to strengthen global peace and security.

Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi is expected to present Somalia’s views on multilateral cooperation. He will emphasize the importance of working together to address global challenges. Somalia supports international efforts to reform and improve the global governance system.

The Security Council is the main organ of the United Nations responsible for maintaining international peace and security. It has 15 members, including five permanent members: China, the United States, Russia, France, and the United Kingdom. The remaining ten members are elected for two-year terms.

Somalia has been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to strengthen international cooperation. The country has faced challenges related to security, terrorism, and economic development. The Somali government believes that working with the international community is essential for lasting peace and stability.

During his visit, Ambassador Fiqi will also hold meetings with representatives from other countries. He will discuss Somalia’s priorities, including security cooperation, economic development, and humanitarian assistance. Somalia seeks stronger partnerships with international organizations and friendly nations.

China, as the chair of the meeting, has called for reforms in global governance. The country has emphasized the need for fair representation of developing countries in international decision-making processes. China has also highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation in resolving global conflicts.

The high-level debate provides an opportunity for countries to share their views on how to improve the global governance system. Many nations are expected to present proposals on how to make international institutions more effective and inclusive. The discussion will cover key issues such as conflict prevention, peacekeeping operations, and humanitarian assistance.

Somalia has been working closely with the United Nations on security and development issues. The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has played a key role in supporting security efforts in the country. The Somali government is committed to taking full responsibility for national security as the transition progresses.

The participation of Somalia in this meeting highlights the country’s growing role in international affairs. Somalia seeks to contribute to global discussions on peace, security, and development. The government continues to engage with regional and international partners to achieve sustainable peace.

The high-level meeting of the Security Council is an important platform for Somalia to present its perspectives. Ambassador Fiqi will use this opportunity to highlight the challenges and opportunities facing Somalia. He will also advocate for stronger international support for Somalia’s development and security initiatives.

As the meeting continues, the Somali delegation will engage in discussions with various stakeholders. The outcomes of the debate will influence future international policies on peace and security. Somalia remains committed to multilateralism and constructive engagement with the global community.

Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi’s visit to New York underscores Somalia’s commitment to diplomacy and international cooperation. The Somali government looks forward to productive discussions and meaningful outcomes from the Security Council meeting.
